Steve Forster was first elected, in 2016, alongside his daughter, to Fleet West & Elvetham at Hart District Council. He then stood, and was elected as Hampshire County Councillor for Fleet Town in 2017. He was re-elected to both in 2021, with increased majorities
He’s worked to ensure more open communication at Hart, driving the live video of council meetings and improved communications - despite open hostility from some cabinet members ( Conservatives are in opposition).
At Hampshire County Council he is the Executive (Cabinet) member for Education, with responsibility for the education of students at over 500 schools and also our libraries across the county.
Steve has lived in Hart’s Fleet West Ward since 1997. He is always proactive, and praised for being responsive to resident's needs. As well as being involved in many community activities, including Fleet Saturday Market, Fleet & District Carnival, local charities, he also helps many organisations and is a trustee of the Sasha’s Project charity, supporting young people aged 13-25
He always puts residents' interests first, before politics or party - and can leverage the support of great colleagues.
He’s campaigned tirelessly and successfully against over development, for safer roads. increased CCTV and reduced crime, improved facilities for young people, and an end to council secrecy.
His experience of running and growing top performing businesses is helpful - along with his interest in sustainability, including active travel (cycling and walking) and EVs.
